What qualifications do you need to be a gym/fitness instructor?

Are the qualifications different? When can i find a course to become a fitness/gym instructor. I am from sheffield, where would be the nearest place to do it? Also how much does it cost and how long does the course last?
I forgot to mention that i have a btech national diploma in sport science. So i do understand a bit about the body etc.

con=tact your local college they will do NVQ courses in fitness and related subjects such as muscle structure and building and diet plans for fitness, ous son= did this and now works full time at a Gym. You have to excercise your brain hard first the muscle can wait. Good luck with it
