Mate Sam hit the …
Mate Sam hit the nail on the head, it’s the question I’ve put to a number of conservatives. Just when is it OK for govt to be involved and from my point it’s only when it helps to serve the conservatives needs and points of view.
This is the only …
This is the only video of the Young Mongols that I actually like.
LOL him!
…
LOL him!
250,000 dollars a year?
Ohh boo whooooo!
jimalbi – c’mon, …
jimalbi – c’mon, really? What’s wrong with a bit of socialism?
You may be confused. Socialism is an economic system unlike Communism which is a political system. Communists are socialists.
Even Vladimir Putin warned the world about socialism in his address to the World Economic Forum earlier this year.
I don’t understand …
I don’t understand how you, right-wind americans think.
What’s wrong with a bit of socialism? Where is the evil? We are not unists.
Many great countries have some forms of socialist policies. What’s the evil with a social solidarity hosted by our governments? At 100k/y, you begin to be very comfortable, depending on the city you live. Here we begin to pay our part at 20k. Somebody have to pay someway for our social services. And it’s normal that the more you earn, the more you contribute.
I have an issue …
I have an issue with the taxes for the wealthy being increased. Before any conclusions are made my wife and I combined make less than $100K/year so we’re not wealthy. However, we do have aspirations of being wealthy. One day, through hard work and sacrifice and God’s blessing we’ll be there. When we reach that goal we don’t want to be penalized for the sake of being wealthy. Taking more from the wealthy and giving it to the poor, by mandate, is the basic ideology of socialism.
Not so cure about …
Not so cure about national defense but I really agrea with the rest. and more should be put on space exploration.
But what I meant is than in Canada we are not deprived of our liberties because we pay more taxes. And we have services (maybe with some isues…) for the taxes we pay.
Sure we always have to work to gain in efficency, but it alway will be.
Being relatively more taxed is not the end of the world as long as you have for what you gave. Scandinavian countries knows that.
jimalbi – no …
jimalbi – no offense taken but your statement that higher taxes equate to lower crime is without merit. Is there evidence to prove that? I’m asking because I don’t know.
I won’t pretend to understand the differences between our two countries in regard to taxation, crime rates, health care, or politics.
But I will say that more of our taxes go toward national defense, space exploration, disease control, research & development, & other programs that benefit not only the US but the entire world.
I was not trying to …
I was not trying to insult you.
And no society is perfect. As you said.
What i meant is we are more taxed in Canada than you in the US. But our social security net is much more complete here to. And our crime rate much lower.
But there is still many critics here who would like our system to be like yours.
But those people wil ask even more coercitive measures against crime when it will get higher. than they will cray against the spents of the state in those jail…
jimalbi – What!? …
jimalbi – What!? Your statement makes absolutely no sense.
Here in the US we also pay taxes, some more than others, and we still have some of the highest crime rates in the world.
Do we as a society live comfortably as a result of paying those taxes? For the most part, yes. However, no society is perfect.
Your umption that I’d prefer to buy a plasma TV to helping someone out that I don’t know is partially true. I do “prefer” to do that but I don’t.
You begin to be …
You begin to be wealthy when you can significantly improve your quality of life and when having enough money for a good food isn’t an issue anymore. When you make more money than you need for the basics needs for an average quality of life.
But as long as the majority of the people in your country live in the similar condition, it can be tricky to define it that way. So the bar should be put significantly higher than this level.
True.
But …
True.
But shouldn’t be seen as a cowardice or criminal act.
And there will …
And there will always be lazy ers to take profit of it but guess what? They won’t have to steal my tv to feed!
In USA you pay billions for warfare, but you don’t wanna pay for the health of your own neighbours? There is something sick in this reasonning…
The government should be a tool for equality of chances between citizens.
I have been raised by a mother on welfare. But now I’m electrician and my brothers are fiscalist and entrepreneur mecanucian. And we pay back taxes…
By providing by …
By providing by your taxes money, health and a roof, you diminish the criminality which is a direct gain for your society.
By only counting on charity to help the poorest, it will always be insuficient. Because you wil always prefer buying a plasma TV than to provide cares to those you don’t know about.
I’m canadian, and even if the taxe are high, our life quality remain high too.
With my taxes, I bought civilisation and made me & ma family safer.
Thanks Vigilante …
Thanks Vigilante but for me, it goes beyond that. I’d like to be able to not only afford a comfortable lifestyle for myself & my family but I’d also like to be able to use my money to help others; voluntarily, not by mandate.
I’d like to be able to help feed starving people around the world, start a charity, give scholarships to those who can’t afford college, etc.
I know I can do those things now to a certain extent but being wealthy allows me to do so much more.
Awesome Video.
…
Awesome Video.
Anyone who is still confused about health care reform should visit my profile. I have lost of information there as well as ways in which you can get more involved. I promise you will not find any scare tactics there.. just the facts.
suicide is the only …
suicide is the only way one can default on the social contract – is this statement true, false or incorrect at its root?
It is a fine …
It is a fine strawman, isn’t it? The funniest part about it is that these people are often eligible for Medicaid when they need it, so the Conservatives are already paying for their health care. It is the working class and small business owners, the ones who are contributing to society economically, who are doing without.
I often point out that Walt Disney went bankrupt three times in his life while building up Disney Inc. Monetary worth at a given moment tells nothing about the individual.
Two questions:
1) …
Two questions:
1) What is your personal definition of ‘wealthy’?
2) If it goes beyond financial independence, what is it about wealth that you are attracted?
I’m not trying to start a fight here, but I have no desire for wealth. I would like to have enough money that, if properly invested, I could afford a middle class life style without working so I could take more risks in creative business endeavors, but beyond that I’m not attracted to material possessions. I’m just curious.
If you’re going to …
If you’re going to be deliberately obtuse and ignore what I’m saying, there’s no point in this discussion. And if the best you can do is trot out strawmen in an attempt to make me sound heartless by putting words in my mouth, then you’re as bad as the lobbyists and professional politicians in Washington against whom I’ve been railing the whole time.
I’ve got no problem with making healthcare available to those who genuinely can’t afford it. Now would you care to actually respond to what I said?
firstly, i’m not …
firstly, i’m not conservative. i’m libertarian. so “us guys” don’t actually have to do any of that. and yeah, I’m a philosophy major, I do know who Kant is, and what the social contract is.
Oh my God upstate, …
Oh my God upstate, the Government IS Wall Street, for Christs sake. Obama’s cabinet is filled with all former Goldman Sachs executives. Obamas cabinet is made of BANKERS! Government does not have a duty to protect you! Every Government run program is a over burdened gluttones beast that is so ridiculously under efficient its embarassing. Government controls health care now! For s sake, look at all the health care lobbyists Obama put in power! WAKE UP!
Actually, Retic92, …
Actually, Retic92, no matter how you look at it, our current US “healthcare” is beyond awful. Yes, I trust the government FAR more than those death panels known as insurance companies, or those thieves known as drug companies.
The current system benefits corporations/executives/shareholders. There is NO excuse for human beings not being able to afford health care/meds. EVERY person matters! Government has a duty to protect its people from that evil and heartless empire called Wall Street.
Sure, it was also …
Sure, it was also subsidized by corporations, to the tune of 100%. And if your sister waited six months to see a dermatologist, that’s bad, and the system needs to be improved. I never said it was perfect, but I can’t complain.
The thing I worry …
The thing I worry most about for my American friends is your high deficits I thought they were bad in Canada but Bush and now Obama just keep spending money as our some of the individual states, the U.S. needs to both balance the budget and raise taxes a moderate amount on everybody.
